( the vulnerability— the softness of this moment has bruce gently duck his head. this version of him is so much more fragile than the dark knight of gotham who hides within the shadows of the streets at night. skin, pale and littered with scars and bruises that batman earns. then there's his heart that wears unhealed wounds across it that cut so incredibly deep, he doesn't even know if they'll ever fully heal. the loss of his parents and the guilt he carries with him for not finding their killer(s)... it gives him purpose, despite the pain, but it comes with such a cost and so many sacrifices at the same time.

he feels more comfortable — less vulnerable when he sits there in his darkness than he does in moments like these that often leave people feeling warm and safe. but that's not to say he's not trying. he's right here. to be happy... he doesn't know if he'll ever reach that. but... maybe he can try. slowly. very, very slowly.
