life happens. all good.

[right now, bruce isn't really as much on dick's radar. he's worried about him, but he doesn't need the prying into his life that his mentor/dad likes to do. he's not sure that bruce would be up to it, but in case he doesn't want anything to mess up his life right now.

when jason admits to being red hood, dick doesn't react. he knows this much and only smiles, happy that the truth is finally there. ]

it's okay. you have an identity of your own now, apart from bruce and titans. it's good. you're not the same red hood you were. you're doing things to better the community. i get it.

[with the chili dogs now occupying jason's lap, dick sits to the side and runs his hands along whatever he can reach, needing a little contact still. it's that feeling that he could have lost jason today. they always have that hanging over their heads, but it's still a thing when it almost happens.]

so glad i could be of service. after being rolled over, you deserve them. i hope they're good still.

[ It's not entirely the reaction Jason was expecting, but he also knows he's not telling Dick the entire truth. He doesn't really want it out there, but at the same time, he doesn't want to be ashamed of it either. He is doing things to better the community. Just in his own way. ]

You're right... I'm not the same Red Hood, and it took me a while to reconcile that. Still am, from time to time, but-- I did take the things from Red Hood that worked. Some of the things that Batman never wanted to do.

[But ultimately did do with the Joker, because in the end, even Bruce knew what had to be done to end the madness. Jason wishes he had still been with Bruce at the time, though. Then maybe none of what happened would have happened.

With the chili dogs in Jason's lap, he lifts one up and takes a big bite.]

Oh yeah, it's definitely still good. Real good. Man, I needed this.

[in listening, dick hears the words that jason says and notes how jason says that he does things that batman never wanted to do, and his smile falters a smidge. it occurs to him then, but he doesn't say it. he shoves it back into a spot in his mind, because it's only a glimmer of a thought. they both know what batman never wanted to do, what he did in the end that drove him to where he is now.

this isn't the time for that. jason's trusted him this much and dick's got chili dogs in his lap. he takes a bite of his own, and tries to keep the chili from dripping everywhere, almost a lost cause.]

they load these things down. i can see why they are your favorites...

[he laughs around a mouthful.]

i hope this makes a few of the bruises better.

[ He can see that smile falter, and he knows Dick has questions that he's gonna answer, but nothing comes. He wonders why, but if Dick doesn't want to talk to him about it right now he's fine with that too. He'd rather not talk about it all, but he knows that's probably wishful thinking.

At least for now though, Dick's accepting as much as he's told him. ]

It's everything you need all in one go.

[And he's a pro at eating them, barely dripping anything at all. He'd never want to waste a single bit of this amazing thing.]

It makes pretty much everything better.

[in the end it really becomes a non-issue, because dick realizes that they each do things their own way and even if/when they do end up working together now and then it's not so bad that it gets out of hand. there's times when things have to be taken care of and dick trusts jason's judgement.

so, it's every bit as much about how they work together everywhere, home, work, and everywhere in between.

as far as the dogs go, dick isn't sure they make all things better, but they make his hunger disappear.]

so much for my kisses, huh. [he laughs, and watches as jason inhales the dogs meticulously. meanwhile, dick's got chili running down his chin which makes him laugh more and grab for napkins.]

[ Jason's pretty sure it'll be a big issue, especially after everything that's happened. It's Dick, after all, and Jason knows what his values are. He knows what his morals are, and it's always been hard to compete with that.

He doesn't think Dick is just gonna be ok with it, and trust Jason's judgement. ]

Your kisses are good too, but chili dogs? I mean, they've been saving my life for a while.

[Jason teases, laughing softly at the mess Dick is making.]

[well, for now they aren't talking about it and dick honestly figures that he cares enough for jason to be okay with a lot of things he never would have before. he's changed more than jason realizes. that's the strange thing about death. it does things, even to someone with crazy strong values.

in the end it's more about chili dogs and kisses, and maybe dick is a little jealous. maybe he's kidding too. the biggest thing is that he's leaning over to kiss jason now with chili on his chin, because of what jason said. payback is a bitch.]

they're better than my kisses huh? what about dick's kisses with chili? i'm going to get you to lick this off and see how much you like my kisses when they taste like a chili dog..

[he's laughing as he leans in and gets jason's face as messy as his, licking at the chili he transfers over, and into jason's mouth all the same. he knows there are bruises, but he hopes the laughter makes up for it.]
