[this was most everything that dick never realized he really wanted. it fills some hole in him, that only jason seemed to be able to fill and it's one of the oddest realizations that ever hit dick, but now that he's settled in it. it's only a good thing. he's ready for this date and all that comes with it. all he wants is for a little joy. they both deserve some together.

laughing even more, dick sits on the floor and crosses his legs. he reaches out and grabs a rope toy and immediately grabs the attention of a little boxer puppy, and about two others. they all three try to wrangle it from him, but he holds on dearly. ]

you'd think this was christmas dinner. look at them, and listen to how fiercely they growl. oh, that's right, you're so fierce. so mean. what a big little puppy you are. look at you.

[he laughs loudly and rolls them around by moving the rope from left to right, his weight directing whatever pup was strong enough to stay on. hint, it was the boxer.]

[ It fills a hole in Jason too, and looking over at Dick while he sits down to play with the puppies, Jason realizes just how much of a hole he fills. It's the sweetest thing, and Dick looks genuinely happy.

He stares for a moment before the puppies try to bowl him over, and he ends up sitting too, letting them climb in his lap and try to jump on his chest so they can lick him. He picks one of them up, letting it do just that, laughing when it licks all over his chin. ]

They're having a blast... and so am I. Look at this little cutie.

[turning to watch jason, dick can feel his heart fill with an even greater affection. how can he not adore the man sitting there with puppies licking him all over. there's a joy in jason's eyes that he hasn't seen in a very long time. this. this is what he wanted for today. this simple happiness for them both.

it's not easy to wipe away the pain of the past, but sometimes animals can help bridge a gap. dick had a good idea.

scooting over to jason, he lays his hand around his boyfriend's back, where puppies nip at his fingers. he reaches around and pets one of the one in jason's lap, kissing jason's cheek while petting the puppy. ]

this is the best date i've ever planned, and been on. i love your smile.

[ Dick did good with this. Real fucking good, cause Jason is feeling that full out joy. This is such an awesome, normal thing for them to do, and it's nice to just do that every once in a while.

Dick had a real good idea.

If you can believe it, he smiles even more when Dick shifts closer, pressing a hand against his back. He laughs when the puppies nip at them, taking up space between the two of them as well. Jason's perfectly happy with that. ]

This is definitely the best fucking date.

[He looks at Dick, smiling a little shyly at the compliment.]

Fuck, you're sweet.

[reaching out and down by his toes that are now spread out long before him, dick offers a display of that flexibility that makes him so unique and he grabs a ball that had rested an inch below where he'd been stretched out.

never once did he need to release the hand from behind jason's back.] sweet on you, you mean.

[he laughs, and his eyes light bright as he watches the young man beside him.]

here toss this and watch them all run for it. Who do you think will win. patches over there, or this one that looks a little like gar if you ask me. all he needs is green fur.

Sweet on me, I'll take it.

[He leans over to kiss Dick's cheek as a puppy climbs up his chest to try and lick him. That makes him laugh, pulling away to scoop the puppy up.]

Oh, you want kisses too, huh little guy?

[He brings the puppy closer to his face and lets him lick his jaw. When he puts the puppy back down into his lap he takes the ball from Dick.]

Oh man, don't say that. Gonna make me think Gar's secretly one of these little puppies. I think that little black retriever might win.

[He grins, tossing the ball and watching them run for it.]

Let's gooooo!

i see how it is. i get cheek kisses and he gets face kisses. i'm jealous. you hear that puppy. i'm jealous.

[dick laughs, using a softer slightly silly voice for the little puppy as he leans over and kisses the little thing on the top of the head. he snickers, but then silently looks around to make sure that none of the puppies are there with a green stripe.

who knew what powers gar had in the red now. dick sure as fuck hope he wouldn't use them to spy on his date. the thought alone made him laugh and he turned his attention back to the puppies. dick pounded his hands back and forth on the ground as almost all the puppies ran for the ball. the corgi tumbled over its own little short legs and two of them started and then forgot what they were doing half way there. it was a hilarious sight.]

look, look, it's little black guy for the win. leave it to the retriever to retrieve the ball. you're pretty good at this, aren't you. that poodle almost had it though. it was a tough break. i think his hair got in his eyes.
